Most people when they watch the
WWE they are all about seeing someone getting knocked out and put in their
place. They have fun cheering on the wrestlers and even seeing the women being
put in their place. It’s all about masculinity and who is the manliest. Even
though it’s all staged they are still performing these crazy stunts to show how
manly they really are. These professionals think they are far from the word feminine.
They want nothing to do with anything that will cause them to look “gay”. Well
have you really ever sat there and thought about how these guys are wrestling each
other to the ground wearing tight shorts and are covered in oil.
Hmm… something here just screams gay to me. You may be proving that you are tougher than your opponent, but don’t bash each other about how they are gay, when clearly your wrestling another guy to the ground. I personally don’t think it’s very manly at all. All I have to say is put some clothes on!
I like you post about the masculinity being represented in the World Wrestling Entertainment. I think it's a perfect example of what our society believes in the message being transferred to the people that watch WWE. But I disagree with the GAY message. I understand that they wear short shorts and fight, but if they covered up their bodies then the audience wouldn't be as inspired by watching people in their pajamas and hoodies. The real message being promoted is- that men are muscular and can posses tremendous body shapes by working out and they are built for toughness. So if they are built as muscular human beings then why not show the world and get the ratings to watch men fight in the ring.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with your post anymore, and I think it's weird that more people don't notice how homosexual WWE really seems. Men are shown wearing basically underwear, all oiled up beating up each other there is definitely some homosexual undertones there. However the fact that these wrestlers use homophobic slurs, and are degrading to women these men are seen as macho and manly. Which i feel like says a lot about our culture. Even what appears to be "homosexual" is still considered manly due to how offensive the wrestlers actually are to gays, and women. Also these wrestlers do not need to be seen in "tightie whities" to prove how strong they are, shorts would work just as fine.
ReplyDeleteIt's really funny. I asked my boyfriend the other day, "what is so tough about this? They are just half naked and rolling around together." He just gave me a dirty look and tried to defend it saying that wrestling this what toughness is all about. I don't quite understand this idea of tougness in wresting although my boyfriend loves it. They are showing their vulnerable half naked bodies to the world and other men. They are touching eachother in places where outside the ring it would be inappropriate. It doesn't make sense to me. When you take them out of the element, they look gay. But most wrestlers make it clear that they are against queerness.
