Sex Sells

When you watch commercials at home, or when you’re flipping through a magazine, what goes through your head when you see how these products are being sold? Sex! We’ve all heard the phrase, “sex sells”, and everyone always has a different opinion about it. I can honestly say I’m stuck in the middle. I think that it can be bad at times, and sometimes it’s good. Do women really not like seeing David Beckham modeling in his underwear? Image DetailAnd what guy doesn’t Image Detaillike seeing the commercials for Victoria Secret. I work in an industry that the phrase “sex sells” definitely helps you out making a little more money. I’m not saying dress like a hooker to work every day, but when you dress nice to work people notice and they tip a little more. What guy wouldn't want to get a haircut by pretty girls who are dressed nice? Some people may not agree with that, but sometimes everyone gets some kind of benefits out of it. What can be a pretty negative side of these ad’s and commercials is that most teens growing up look at these things and think that those are perfect people and that’s how everyone should act and look.  Girls who are being bullied in school think that they should be these skinny stick figures that dress in skimpy clothing, and boys who look at these ad’s and think they should be these strong athletic men who have abs and muscles. Yeah it’s cool if you do grow up and you look like theses celebrities in these ads, but it’s totally fine if you don’t. You are who you are and you should never change that to get something you want.  You were born an original, don’t die a copy.

Go Big, Or Go Home!

As we begin our new section in women in media, a big topic has come up in our discussions. Weddings! Most women fantasize about their weddings since they were little girls. They know exactly what type of wedding they want, where it’s going to be located, what colors everything should be, and what type of flowers they want. Most people think that some women are crazy for fantasizing about this their whole lives. All I can say is you only live once , go big or go home!
I can’t say that I have been dreaming about my wedding since I was a child, but every now and then I just add on to my dream wedding list. There are so many shows out there that revolve around weddings. Some of them are helpful and give you good ideas, then others; you’re just kind of like what the hell is going on. One of my favorite wedding shows is on TLC, it’s called Say yes, to the dress. The brides go to these lavishing bridal boutiques to look for their dream dress. Most of the brides end up walking out with their dress, but some just can’t seem to make up their minds. While watching the show you get really good tips about the different styles of dresses and what looks good on you. This show is a good example of a positive wedding show. A negative wedding show would have to be BridezillaWho would want to watch a show about these women who have mental breakdowns before their wedding and act like horrible creatures? That is not what planning a wedding should be about. You should be having fun and enjoying every minute of it.

What a wedding should really be about though is just a bonding between you and the person you truly love. It shouldn’t be about how much you spent on a dress, or what type of flowers you have. Even though we see couples getting married and having huge marvelous weddings, there are still a good amount of people who like to keep it small and not spend their whole life savings for just one day. Personally I would love to have a huge wedding and I would spend the money to have everything I wanted happen. I'm just a "Go big, or go home" type of person.

Just a Little Nip & Tuck!

“Look at my nose, look at these arms, I want bigger boobs!” These are thoughts that go through many women’s heads every day. A few percentage of these women will go under the knife to correct their so called “flaws”. They think nothing of the risk and what kind of message it sends to people. So many famous people go through many changes all thanks to plastic surgery. Everyone wants to look like the perfect person, but really what is perfect? Is it to be so skinny you can wrap your hands around your waist, or to have the biggest boobs out of all your friends, or is it to have the freshest looking face, that you believe will last you forever. Sometimes women will take it a little to far when changing their appearance.

Image Detail A few years ago reality star Heidi Montag went a little over board with the plastic surgery. She dramatically changed her whole outer appearance. She told everyone she wanted to look perfect. Honestly, nothing looks perfect about having boobs the size of your head. It just screams trashy. For younger girls to see this and think that it's normal to look like this is just scary. This gives girls false hope about their own appearance. It makes them insecure, because they aren't a size double zero and they don't have big boobs.

Image DetailOver the summer I happened to find a TV show about these women competing against each other for plastic surgery. They wanted to look perfect before their wedding day, and the only way they thought they could achieve this was to go on this show and win plastic surgery. Then after they have won the show they get all this surgery and a dream wedding, but they don't get to see their husbands until they walk down the isle and flip up the veil. What ever happened to  its not about looks, they will fall in love with you for who you are. Well apparently no one goes by this any more.

Women need to realize that there is no such thing as being perfect. You are who you are and that should never change. One of my favorite quotes is, " Your born an original, don't die a copy." Stop trying to be like everyone else and just be yourself.
