When you watch commercials at
home, or when you’re flipping through a magazine, what goes through your head
when you see how these products are being sold? Sex! We’ve all heard the phrase,
“sex sells”, and everyone always has a different opinion about it. I can
honestly say I’m stuck in the middle. I think that it can be bad at times, and sometimes
it’s good. Do women really not like seeing David Beckham modeling in his underwear?
And what guy doesn’t
like seeing the commercials for Victoria Secret. I work in
an industry that the phrase “sex sells” definitely helps you out making a
little more money. I’m not saying dress like a hooker to work every day, but
when you dress nice to work people notice and they tip a little more. What guy wouldn't want to get a haircut by pretty girls who are dressed nice? Some people may not
agree with that, but sometimes everyone gets some kind of benefits out of it. What
can be a pretty negative side of these ad’s and commercials is that most teens
growing up look at these things and think that those are perfect people and that’s
how everyone should act and look. Girls
who are being bullied in school think that they should be these skinny stick
figures that dress in skimpy clothing, and boys who look at these ad’s and think
they should be these strong athletic men who have abs and muscles. Yeah it’s
cool if you do grow up and you look like theses celebrities in these ads, but it’s
totally fine if you don’t. You are who you are and you should never change that
to get something you want. You were born
an original, don’t die a copy.

Love the end line. I totally agree. Being original makes life interesting! Unfortunately sex does sell. It's almost like if you want anything you have to show a little skin. Although I agree that people like to see nicely dressed and beautiful people. It's part of our biology to be attracted to nice looking people because it means they have good genes. Of course, like you pointed out having these images sends out a message to younger girls and boys that they must be perfect. I think that it's ok to have these images and have children see them as long as parents do damage control. Talk to your kids. Tell them that not everyone is like this. I wonder how we have gotten to the point where wearing practically nothing is not only the norm, but it's actually used to sell products. For example, the commerical on my blog about the woman stripping...to sell a hamburger... Has it really come down to that?
