As we begin our new section in
women in media, a big topic has come up in our discussions. Weddings! Most
women fantasize about their weddings since they were little girls. They know
exactly what type of wedding they want, where it’s going to be located, what
colors everything should be, and what type of flowers they want. Most people
think that some women are crazy for fantasizing about this their whole lives. All
I can say is you only live once , go big or go home!
I can’t say that I have been
dreaming about my wedding since I was a child, but every now and then I just
add on to my dream wedding list. There are so many shows out there that revolve
around weddings. Some of them are helpful and give you good ideas, then others;
you’re just kind of like what the hell is going on. One of my favorite wedding
shows is on TLC, it’s called Say yes, to
the dress. The brides go to these lavishing bridal boutiques to look for
their dream dress. Most of the brides end up walking out with their dress, but
some just can’t seem to make up their minds. While watching the show you get
really good tips about the different styles of dresses and what looks good on you.
This show is a good example of a positive wedding show. A negative wedding show
would have to be Bridezilla. Who
would want to watch a show about these women who have mental breakdowns before
their wedding and act like horrible creatures? That is not what planning a
wedding should be about. You should be having fun and enjoying every minute of
it.
What a wedding should really be
about though is just a bonding between you and the person you truly love. It shouldn’t
be about how much you spent on a dress, or what type of flowers you have. Even
though we see couples getting married and having huge marvelous weddings, there
are still a good amount of people who like to keep it small and not spend their
whole life savings for just one day. Personally I would love to have a huge wedding and I would spend the money to have everything I wanted happen. I'm just a "Go big, or go home" type of person.
I'm the same way. While I don't think that you wedding is THE most important day in your life, I do think its a pretty big deal and if hopefully it's your only wedding, then why not go all out? But you shouldn't be as stressed as some of these women get, in other words don't be Bridezilla. These shows always focus more on the woman and its almost like the men have nothing to do with it. I understand that women are more into the material sides of the wedding, I mean they just tend to have more interest in those sort of things, but a good groom shouldn't just back off and pay no attention at all. Share the stress and it will keep her from turning into a monster!
ReplyDeleteThere are many shows on television that promote women to glamorrize their weddings. Shows like "say yes to the dress" or "my wedding story" paint out this pricture for brides of what their wedding should look like. Every bride wants to have a wedding just like the one's on television. These television shows have just come around in the last few years or so. This is to feed off of this idea that women need more on their wedding day. This is just another way that these companies can get money. By having these television shows on, it gives brides an outline to go off of to make their wedding perfect and tell them how much "More" they can get.
