This week in class we are talking about
children's media. Children's media plays a big role in advertising and selling
products. When you direct something towards a kid in the right way you are most definitely going to make
some money. Kids these days tend to be a lot more "Spoiled". They get
what they want, when they want it and don't back down until they get it. Parents
will spoil their children with whatever they ask for just to shut them up. I
wonder if advertisers have children and think about what their children would
do to get something they want. Having your ad’s directed towards kids is such a
smart idea, but also very cruel towards the adults. Parents don't always want to fall in the traps of advertiser, but it happens sometimes and that when you get a very spoiled child. Parents need to stand their ground and tell their children no and not let them keep bugging them for a new toy, or for a different kind of cereal. parents, don't let your child over rule you!

I completely agree. It's very smart and also very cruel to advertise to the child so that they will get the parent to buy things for them. I hope that most parents do not give into their child's every demand so that they do not become greedy spoiled brats. I would also like to know how advertisers realized that this was such a smart idea. Do they really have thier own children and realize that they're more willing to listen to thier child than to an add that says something is good for them? I would also wonder what kind of effect this is having on children's confidence. Will they feel less confindent if they do not get a product advertised on TV? My overall opinion is that the laws banning certain advertising to children should come back.
ReplyDeleteMarketing to children has gotten ridiculous. The kind of things that children under the age of 10 are getting these days. I think a lot of this has to do with the idea that they are spoiled. Parents do not know how to say no. I used to babysit, the girl I used to watch had an iphone and knew how to use it completely from having games and music on it as well as contacts. She was 2 years old. Kids get too much that they do not need. Kids under the age of 10 do not need iphones. At that age, I was perfectly fine coloring in coloring books. Kids are not content with that. They want the newer and finer things and I think it is partly because they are just spoiled.
